Above are examples of lessons I designed for fourth and fifth grade science texts respectively. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt sought to revamp the design of their estimable line of middle school science products using dynamic, magazine-like layouts to impart information in an exciting yet easy to read format. Interaction with the subject of each lesson was employed through the critical thinking questions, experiments, and activities interspersed throughout the spreads. All of the content was developed collaboratively, and as design lead, I presented initial layout concepts to editors, stakeholders, teachers, and photographers during review meetings. Below you'll see an exmaple of the concept sketch I presented to reviewers, and the images after that are excerpts from the finished product.
